Ag Secretary Vilscak, Robertson of 'Duck Dynasty' Speak to Farmers in SA
Posted January 13th, 2014 @ 2:46pm by Jim Forsyth

U.S. Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack was preaching to the choir today as he told the annual meeting of the National Farm Bureau in San Antonio that Congress must pass a farm bill which includes dairy price relief, and farm insurance, 1200 WOAI news reports.

"The reality is, if you don't have crop insurance, if you don't have a revenue protection program, for many that risk will become unreasonable, and people will move out of the business," the former Iowa governor told the nation's largest farmers group.

The Farm Bureau also heard a folksy presentation from Alan Robertson, part of the 'Duck Dynasty' Robertson clan.

Vilsack also called for a farm bill that would stabilize milk prices.  He said without it, the government would be forced to 'stockpile milk,' which would jack up prices.

Vilsack said a farm bill is needed to make sure American farmers remain prosperous.

"It basically reduces the risk of farming to a reasonable level, which allows farmers to stay in the business," Vilsack said.  "When that happens, all American benefits."
