Posted September 30th, 2013 @ 12:31pm by Jim Forsyth

James Street, who quarterbacked the University of Texas Longhorns to undefeated records in the glory days of the late coach Darryl Royal, died today at his home in Austin at the age of 66.

UT Coach Mack Brown confirmed the death on his Twitter account, writing, "very sad day as we lost college FB great, good friend & wonderful family man w/passing of James Street.  Our thoughts and prayers are w/Janie & family."

Street, who was a native of Longview, was undefeated as a starting quarterback at the University of Texas, winning memorable games over Arkansas and Notre Dame.  Texas won the National Championship in 1969 under street's leadership.

Street was also an All American baseball player at the University of Texas, and his son Huston Street is a major league pitcher.
