Being in retail in Bexar County continues to be a winning proposition.

1200 WOAI news reports that sales tax receipts for June in Bexar County, the best measure of retail activity, were up nearly 16% over June of 2012.

The 15.85% increase in retail sales is half of the increase reported statewide, and indicates a surging economy, as people reach into their wallets and pay for everything from new homes to clothing and other retail products.

And the 16% increase in retail sales is over a July of 2012, which also was up sharply from the year before.

Retail sales, which are 70% of a region's economic activity, are one of many bright spots in the local economy, and strong retail means jobs not just in stores, but also in warehouses, and in trucking and manufacturing operations as well.
