Two of a trio of armed robbers who police say have been terrorizing the overnight shifts of motels and convenience stores on the north and north east sides for the past ten days are in custody this morning, following a high speed police chase, 1200 WOAI news reports.

It began when officers got a call for a stick up at a motel on the north east side early this morning.

Officers arrived and noticed the getaway car matched the description of the car used in previous armed robberies in the area.  They also noticed that the car was stolen.

Officers turned on their lights and siren and gave chase.  The chase wound up and down Walzem and Midcrown Drives, until the driver of the getaway car lost control on Castle Brook Street, which is south of Midcrown.

The car skidded across a front yard, slammed into a house, then careened broadside into a tree.  One man was trapped in the car and he was rushed to SAAMC.  The other two men jumped out and tried to run away.  One of them was apprehended, the third fled.

Police found a fully loaded shotgun, of the type that has been used in several of the armed robberies, inside the wrecked car.
