In College Station, Johnny Manziel accounted for 346 yards with three touchdowns in just more than a half to help 10th-ranked Texas A and M cruise to a 42-13 win over SMU Saturday night. Former Texas quarterback Garrett Gilbert threw for 310 yards and a touchdown with an interception for Southern Methodist.

In Austin, Johnathan Gray rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns and Texas beat Kansas State 31-21 last night in the Big 12 opener for both teams. David Ash threw a 63-yard touchdown pass and the Longhorns defense forced three critical second-half turnovers in Austin. The victory allowed UT to avoid its first 1-3 start since 1956.

In El Paso,  Eric Soza passed for 204 yards and a touchdown and three Roadrunners rushed for touchdowns as Texas-San Antonio smacked cross-state rival Texas-El Paso in the conference, 32-13 Saturday night.

In Lubbock, Kliff Kingsbury is glad Texas Tech's defense is stepping up, especially when the Red Raiders' offense struggled like it did Saturday night. The 25th-ranked Red Raiders beat Texas State 33-7. Texas State struggled against a stingy Tech defense that gave up only 232 total yards in Lubbock
