Two people are lucky to be alive following a very close call on the city's south side this morning.

Police say around 1AM a car containing two occupants was stopped at the grade crossing at Southeast Military and South Presa, waiting for the train to cross.

Another vehicle came up from behind them and slammed into the back of their car...shoving it onto the tracks right in front of the oncoming locomotive.

The two people in the car managed to jump out just in time.

They say the car that shoved them make a quick U-turn and speed away, but police say it suffered front end damage in the wreck and shouldn't be hard to find.

Detectives don't know if the incident was accidental, or if the second vehicle intentionally pushed the car onto the tracks.
