A two alarm fire at an apartment complex in the Medical Center Sunday morning resulted in more than two dozen fire units clogging streets, Newsradio 1200 WOAI reports.

When firefighters arrived at the fire in the 4400 block of Gardendale, which is just off Wurzbach Road, they found flames shooting out of one of the apartments.

Firefighters and residents went from apartment to apartment banging on doors to get residents out safely, while newly arriving crews began putting water n the fire.

Several apartments were badly damaged by the fire, but crews managed to prevent it from spreading.

Several residents told firefighters that they were suffering from smoke inhalation and other injuries, but none had to be hospitalized.

The fire is believed to be suspicious in origin and arson investigators are on the scene.

The Red Cross and other agencies were also called in to help people who were displaced by the fire.
