Rangers Hold Off Skidding Astros

Cole Hamels

Cole Hamels allowed three singles over  seven shutout innings and the Rangers held off the Astros 6-4 at Globe  Life Park.  Elvis Andrus had three hits, scored three runs and drove in a  run for Texas.  Carlos Gomez and Nomar Mazara each drove in two runs as  Texas opened the series with a win.  George Springer hit a two-run  homer for Houston and Charlie Morton took the loss.  The Astros have  lost four straight and 10 of 13, but still own the best record in the  American League, 71-and-44.
