MMA Star Derrick Lewis Saves Man With Confederate Flag In Hurricane Harvey

Hurricane Harvey affected many people in Houston, Texas. When victims were stranded in the flooded streets, as they tried to leave their neighborhoods, there were a number of brave heroes who went out and helped them escape the disaster.

One of the people who helped families was professional MMA fighter from Houston Derrick Lewis. Known as "The Black Feast," Lewis "has been helping families since Sunday by responding to messages on Facebook and using his Chevy pickup truck to move residents to safer spaces," HuffPost claims.

In an interview with MMA Junkie, Lewis revealed that one of the families that he rescued included a father who deeply wanted to save his confederate flag. "I picked up one guy and his family, his wife ― he just kept apologizing to me, because all he really had was his clothes, and he wanted to take his confederate flag," Lewis said. "He wanted to take that with him, and he just apologized and said, 'Man, I'll sit in the back of your truck, man. I don't want to have my flag inside of your truck like this.' I said, 'Man, I’m not worried about that.'"

The athlete added that the man's wife was hitting him and telling him to leave it. But, Lewis didn't mind. "I don’t care about that," he added. "I live in Texas. It ain’t nothing new. I’ve been living in the South all my life, and it ain't nothing I hadn't seen before or discussed about. I don't care about that type of stuff. I just wanted to help him."

Good for Lewis for stepping up to the plate and helping victims of the hurricane in his hometown. Respect.
