Gus Malzahn Needs a Twitter Time Out

Across the South in the U.S. families are freezing and without power during a winter storm unlike any other. Meanwhile Gus Malzahn is posting on his Twitter about how warm and sunny it is in Florida. READ THE ROOM GUS.

I know this photo op and caption was most likely a recruiting effort. But dude, right now is not the time to be boasting about how wonderful your current situation is when so many are going through such a tough and scary time. Plus, so many players come out of Texas and A LOT end up going to Florida, so speaking to them in this manner feels less like a pitch and more like a slap in the face. If you read the comments on this particular Twitter post coach Gus is being dragggged, and I'd say rightfully so. Do I believe he meant to insult anyone? No. But again, read the room.

NBA "All Stars"

Last night the 2021 NBA All Star game starters were announced.

East: Kyrie Irving, Kevin Durant (Captain), Bradley Beal, Giannis Antetokounmpo and Joel Embiid

West: Steph Curry, Luka Doncic, LeBron James (Captain), Kawhi Leonard, Nikola Jokic

What's interesting about this list as that so many on it, including LeBron James, do not wish to play in the All Star game this year. They were under the impression that there was not going to be an All Star event this year due to COVID and the quick turnaround from the end of the last season and the start of the new one. Players have been vocal in saying they will be in Atlanta physically but not mentally.

So why is the NBA pressing? Why can't they just let this go? Is it worth risking a COVID outbreak with the biggest names in the league? Surely viewership would go down if your All Stars had to sit a week due to contract tracing following a quick trip to Atlanta. Is it worth putting on a show that nobody is happy to participate in? Fans don't want to tune in to see a lethargic LeBron. Will these players end up sitting out for load management later in the season because they simply just need the rest? In my mind it's not worth holding the All Star game this year. I get it's a business, but if the NFL can go without a true Pro-Bowl I think the NBA can manage to go without an All Star weekend.

Stay tuned as the reserve rosters will be released on February 23rd.

Dak Donates

Dak is seemingly still in Florida with his lady friend as Texans continue to brave this winter storm. However, that doesn't mean the QB isn't thinking about Texas during this difficult time. It was revealed yesterday that #4 reached out to Dallas area shelter "Our Calling" to help out. His help lifted up 1,000 people which saw them get aid during a time of need. Most of these people were reportedly wearing their warmest Dallas Cowboys gear and were high fiving each other with the knowledge that their guy Dak Prescott came to their rescue.

Whether or not Dak will remain a Cowboy for years to come remains to be seen. But if there was any question that Dak was pulling away from the organization I think his most recent act of kindness proves he still very much has Texas (the Dallas Cowboys) on his mind.
