Harry Shearer Announces All-Star Band Members For Derek Smalls' Mini Tour

Comic legend Harry Shearer promised an all-star band for his upcoming fall mini-tour of the West Coast as Spinal Tap bassist Derek Smalls, and that was no joke.

Smalls' 'Lukewarm Water Live!' tour begins on November 6 in Los Angeles. Backing the iconic fictional bassist will be three celebrated guitarists, Toto's Steve Lukather, Dweezil Zappa and Waddy Wachtel.

In addition to the live band, Smalls will also employ "satellite technology" to avail himself of the services of the likes of Steve Vai, Steely Dan's Donald Fagen, actress/comedian Jane Lynch, Snarky Puppy Horns and the Hungarian Studio Orchestra.

"Playing live with a symphony orchestra and some of the greats in rock music was never anything I could even hope to dream of," Smalls said via a release. "But I can now!"

The bassist teased more guests to be announced as the four concerts draw near. The November tour is touted as a precursor to a more substantial trek coming in 2020.

Smalls' big band is expected to perform music from the solo album he released last year, Smalls Change (Meditations Upon Ageing), as well as favorites from the Spinal Tap catalog.
