The Texas Rangers have announced the signing of right-handed pitcher Hunter Wood to a 2021 minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Wood, 27, spent the 2020 season as part of Cleveland's 60-man player pool, but did not see any game action. He was designated for assignment by Cleveland on July 23 and assigned outright to the club's Alternate Training Site on July 25, spending the duration of the season with the team's alternate group at High-A Lake County in suburban Cleveland.

Wood appeared in the Majors for three straight years from 2017-19, combining for a 2-2 record with a 3.32 ERA over 66 games/10 starts while averaging 8.4 strikeouts per 9 innings. He combined to go 1-1 with a 2.98 ERA over 36 games/2 starts with Tampa Bay and Cleveland in 2019, setting career highs in games and innings (45.1). The Arkansas native was originally selected in the 29th round of the 2013 June draft out of Howard College in Big Spring, Texas.
