Wilson names Borges offensive coordinator

UTSA

UTSA head coach Frank Wilson announced Friday that he has named 36-year coaching veteran Al Borges as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach.

"I am thrilled to be able to announce the hiring of Al Borges as our new offensive coordinator," Wilson said. "Al Borges has a masterful offensive mind and a coaching style that takes advantage of the talent and skillset of the players on the roster. His unique ability to develop quarterbacks is second to none. Our coaching staff got better today."

Borges, a two-time Broyles Award finalist for the best assistant coach in college football, comes to the Roadrunners from Auburn, where he served as an offensive analyst during the 2017 season. He helped the Tigers to a 10-4 overall record, the Southeastern Conference West Division crown with a 7-1 mark and an appearance in the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl. Auburn's potent offense averaged 451.6 yards and 33.9 points per game. All-American running back and SEC Offensive Player of the Year Kerryon Johnson rushed for 1,391 yards and 18 touchdowns, while SEC Newcomer of the Year quarterback Jarrett Stidham passed for 3,158 yards and 18 TDs.

He previously was the offensive coordinator at Michigan (2011-13), San Diego State (2009-10) and San José State (2009-10; 2015-16).
