Almost 30,000 fans filled the Alamodome to welcome their new football team, the San Antonio Commanders, as they played their inaugural game against the San Diego Fleet on Saturday night.

“How proud I was of San Antonio and the Alliance being here, what our leadership has done. It was just a good scene, it felt good. I knew this city would stand up and do a good job. It was really good to play in front of them,” Head Coach Mike Riley said.

Quarterback Logan Woodside passed for 255 yards and kicker Nick Rose made three field goals to lead San Antonio to a 15-6 victory over San Diego.

Defense led the way at The Alamodome, highlighted by the Commanders OLB Shaan Washington’s sack and forced fumble that electrified the crowd.

The San Antonio Commanders defense tallied three turnovers, six sacks and a forced fumble en route to a 15-6 victory over The San Diego Fleet. Kenneth Farrow II scored the first touchdown in Commanders history with a four-yard run that sealed the win. “When I first started exploring the idea of a spring football league, I knew that in order to succeed we had to put quality football on the field.

I am truly humbled and in awe of Bill Polian and his team and what they accomplished tonight,” said Charlie Ebersol, co-founded & CEO, The Alliance. “The atmosphere here in the Alamodome was absolutely electric. There are a number of things we can and will improve on, but tonight exceeded my expectations and we’ll only grow from here.”

“Our hope coming into tonight was to have quality football on display. We wanted this to look like real, professional football, and that’s exactly what fans got to watch,” said Bill Polian, co-founder & head of football, The Alliance. “The intensity on both sides of the ball was tremendous."
