Let's get right to it!
Who doesn't love a pandemic parade
The Bucs have had some time to let their Super Bowl win sink in. On Wednesday afternoon they will take to the streets waterways of Tampa Bay to take part in a boat parade to celebrate their championship. Unlike the Tampa Bay Lightning who held their boat parade just a few months ago, patrons with boats will not be able to follow the parade nor will there be a post parade celebration to gather at for speeches and a viewing of the team and trophy.
While I love a good parade it is interesting that the Mayor of Tampa Bay is letting it happen. He is still upset about how the community celebrated on Sunday night. Hoards of people were caught on video celebrating maskless and well within 6 feet of others. So many people in fact, that the Mayor has been considering finding people from those videos and pressing chargers.
Let's hope we see plenty of mask wearers at today's festivities.
Y'all be on the lookout for Gronk who has yet to hold the latest championship trophy he's won. We all know what happened last time right? For those that don't allow the video below to refresh your memory.
North Carolina Basketball Apologizes
North Carolina defeated Duke in hoops over the weekend and celebrated like it was 2019. We get it. Defeating your rival in sports is one of the best feelings there is. Who wouldn't want to celebrate? The problem is, now, during a pandemic is not the time to celebrate the way you use to. i.e. going to a party with others maskless folks dancing around in close contact. A video appeared on snapchat featuring a handful of players celebrating after the win in a way the CDC strongly warns against. Although snapchat videos expire after 24 hours, we all know that in the digital age things can and usually will live on forever. Naturally the video of the players in attendance got out and in a span of just a few hours the Tar Heels next game against Miami was postponed out of caution for both teams.
The players have apologized for the outing. But come on guys, we are this deep into this thing and we are still making these kinds of decisions? It's getting late into the season and there are already other games that need to be made up. Now you've added another one. Oh and by the way UNC, you aren't ranked for the first time in FOREVER so what do you really have to be celebrating?
As if the season could get any worse for the Minnesota Timberwolves
Yesterday Timberwolves guard Malik Beasley was sentenced to 120 days in jail after a September incident in which he pointed a firearm at a family and told them to "scram." The Timberwolves currently sit in last place in the Western Conference and therefore have other priorities they would rather focus on. Instead Malik Beasley, their best scorer currently on the team with an average of 20 points a game has jail on his mind. In what I believe to be a rather savage move, the judge has allowed Beasley to finish out the season by making May 26th the day in which he must report to jail. This date allows Malik to finish the regular season but assures he won't be available for the playoffs...because the T-wolves won't make them.
