San Antonio FC Announces Int'l Friendly Against England's Cardiff City

San Antonio FC announced plans for their 2019 mid-season International Friendly on Friday morning. Coming to Toyota Field on Saturday July 13th at 7:30pm will be former English Premiere League side Cardiff City FC. Cardiff most recently played in England's top flight Premiere League, but unfortunately they were relegated after finishing with 34 points on the season. They'll play in the English Championship next season - the equivalent of USL Championship in England. Cardiff finished their season in style by defeating EPL giants Manchester United 2-0 on May 12th.

Cardiff was also in the news this season for tragic reasons as a plane carrying mid-season transfer Emiliano Sala crashed in January .

This will be the first team from England to play a match at Toyota Field.

SAFC executives were very excited about the match-up. Managing Director Tim Hold said of the game, “Our supporters have encouraged us to bring a top overseas opponent with a storied history to Toyota Field, and we are excited to have the opportunity to test ourselves against a club as accomplished as Cardiff City FC.”

Cardiff's top scorers in 2018-2019 were Victor Camarasa and Bobby Reid, each with 5 goals on the season.

The match will be free to San Antonio FC Season Ticket Members and an exclusive pre-sale window for San Antonio FC STM's to purchase additional tickets is open now and will run through Monday June 3.

Members of the SAFC Fan Club and fans who download the official San Antonio FC app also have access to an exclusive pre-sale window, starting Friday at noon.

Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Tuesday, June 4 at 10 a.m.

The match will also feature $1 drinks.
