San Antonio FC (5-3-0, 18 points) dominated OKC Energy FC (1-3-4, 6 points) 4-0 on Wednesday night at Toyota Field. Four different players scored for SAFC who extended their lead at the top of Group D to eight points ahead of second place FC Tulsa, their next opponent. With the win, SAFC are now unbeaten through the first half of their 2020 schedule. Eight games down, eight more to go.
SAFC has outscored OKC Energy 7-0 in two games this month.
San Antonio FC jumped on OKC right from the start in this one as Luis Solignac scored his third goal of the season in the third minute, and it was a bit of history too. The goal marked the 200th all time Goal scored by San Antonio FC. Solignac is tied with Parano for most goals scored on the team.
Said Solignac, ""I think we play every game the same way – very intense. Today we scored our chances that we had, so I think that is the difference. For us, it’s a great win that we needed here at home.”
Just over ten minutes later Victor "PC" Giro was burying a Penalty Kick for his first goal in a SAFC uniform and a 2-0 San Antonio lead.
Right before Halftime, Defender Mitchell Taintor added his first goal of the season from the back post off a corner kick to extend the SAFC advantage to 3-0 at the break.
In the 67th minute, Forward Gonzalo DiRenzo would tack on his second goal of 2020 from an open position at the top of the box to end the scoring with SAFC comfortably ahead at 4-0.
Manager Alen Marcina liked what he saw adding, “It was a strong showing from start to finish. I am incredibly proud of the guys. We put forth two objectives tonight, to apply high intensity in attack and when we press, and we felt like the guys executed that well.”
Next up for San Antonio FC is their final home match of the three-game stand, against second place FC Tulsa on Saturday night at Toyota Field. FC Tulsa tied Austin on Wednesday night 2-2. They trail SAFC by eight points heading into the match.
As with the other home games, no fans will be permitted out of continued precautions surrounding Covid-19. The match is set to kickoff at 8pm.
