MATCH REPORT: Unbeaten San Antonio FC Deals FC Tulsa Their First Loss, 2-0

In a battle of unbeaten teams San Antonio FC (6-3-0, 21 points) were the victors over FC Tulsa (2-4-1, 10 points) 2-0 on Saturday night at Toyota Field. The win extends SAFC's unbeaten start in 2020 to nine games and the loss for FC Tulsa, their first of the season, dropped them to third place in Group D. San Antonio had a fist half Penalty Kick Goal by Forward Luis Solignac that was enough. The Goal was his team leading 4th of the season. Forward Ignacio Bailone also scored for SAFC in the win.

San Antonio FC are now one of only three unbeaten teams in all of USL Championship (Tampa Bay, Orange County). Goal Keeper Matt Cardone set a San Antonio FC team record with the clean sheet, his 17th all time for SAFC. San Antonio finished the three match home stand earning seven out of nine possible points.

Said Manager Alen Marcina, “I think we created a number of opportunities in high goal-scoring percentage areas of the field. I think we have to be a little more ruthless with that final action. In the first half we could have been up by a couple goals. Hats off to Tulsa, they competed and fought. It’s a very good team and they are very well coached, but we were able to get the three points.”

Things got testy in the second half as FC Tulsa piled up five yellow cards, a straight red card for Fabian Bastidas, and then a second yellow card for Eric Bird in the match's final moments which amounted to a second red card, ultimately leaving FC Tulsa with only 9 players on the pitch as the Full Time whistle was blown.

San Antonio FC Forward Ignacio Bailone put the match away in the 89th minute, hitting a power shot on target from inside the box. Bailone, who entered the match less than ten minutes before the goal, continues to be a super substitute for SAFC. His two Goals and two Assists this season have all come as a sub.

Bailone talked about it after the game, "Luckily I've been getting opportunities and being effective with goals and assists coming off the bench. When I'm not on the pitch, I get a chance to look at how things are playing out with the opponent, how defenders are lining up and their tendencies, so I try to take advantage of that when I check into the game."

With the win San Antonio FC extended their lead at the top of Group D to 10 points. SAFC's goal differential of Plus 13 is third best in all of USL Championship (Phoenix, Pittsburgh).

Next up for San Antonio FC is a road trip to the Valley to take on RGV FC for the third time this season. RGV FC are in last place in Group D and have yet to win a game in 2020. The match kicks off at 7pm on Friday night.
