MATCH RECAP: San Antonio FC Lose at New Mexico United 2-0

San Antonio FC (2-4-2, 10 points) lost 2-0 against New Mexico United (4-2-2, 14 points) in a 2020 playoff rematch at Isotopes Park on Wednesday night, in a match that was a steamy 93 degrees at kickoff. Just like last Fall's playoff meeting, New Mexico walked away with the victory. Suggs and Yearwood scored for New Mexico in the win. San Antonio have never won on the road against New Mexico. It was the third straight clean sheet for a tough and impressive New Mexico United defense.

New Mexico United Captain Josh Suggs scored his first goal of the season in the 33' to give the home side the early advantage. It was the 200th USL appearance for the veteran player. Suggs controlled a pass in the SAFC box and slotted it past SAFC Keeper Matt Cardone into the lower left corner of the goal to give United the 1-0 lead.

New Mexico dominated the opening half controlling possession at 74% to 26% and they also held a major advanatge in passing accuracy topping San Antonio 87% to 65% in the opening 45 minutes. San Antonio did manage 8 shots in the opening half but only 1 on target for a dismal shooting accuarcy of only 13%.

In the second half New Mexico United picked up right where they left off and Austin Yearwood delivered a sensational goal from distance in the 52' to give New Mexico a commanding 2-0 lead.

With the loss San Antonio FC drop to 5th in the Mountain Division and out of playoff position for the first time this season. Going back to last year, SAFC have only won one road match in their last nine games away from Toyota Field under Manager Alen Marcina. SAFC are winless in their last four games overall.

Up next for San Antonio FC is a return to Toyota Field for the first and only time in the month of June as they will host Texas rivals RGV-FC on Saturday night. RGV-FC are in first place in the Mountain Division. SAFC will be hosting Pride Night Celebrations throughout the game. The match will double as a Copa Tejas clash. SAFC are in last place in the all-Texas Tournament.
