SATX Life: Growth, Cariño, & Success On The Southside

April Monterrosa, CEO, Live From The Southside

For this episode of SATX Life: Driven by Toyota I wanted to highlight the Southside of San Antonio and congratulate April Monterrosa for her one-year anniversary of the Live From The Southside Magazine. August 2020, in the middle of a global pandemic, April decided to take on more work and launch a print version of her already successful online blog. The August 2021 edition is a special one, it marks the 1-year anniversary of a lot of hard work and perseverance. A lot of ganas and cariño for the Southside.

MySA digital content producer Sarah Martinez recently wrote a great article focusing on the rich culture that can only be found on the Southside of San Antonio. In full disclosure, I also grew up on the Southside, so I am naturally biased about my community. Sarah wrote that the Southside of San Antonio is the “embodiment of puro culture,” and I couldn’t agree more. Check out her piece “The best of puro San Antonio culture is found on the Southside.”

That brings me to this week's SATX Life: Spotlight. After leaving San Antonio to work in Los Angeles for nearly 20 years, I returned to San Antonio with a deeper appreciation for the community that made me, the Southside of San Antonio. Everything looked and felt like home. Not long after moving back to San Antonio I discovered Live From The Southside. I loved seeing positive stories about a part of San Antonio that sometimes gets a bad rap. Over the next couple of years I got to know and work with Live From The Southside CEO, April Monterrosa. We would run into each other at events, we’ve teamed up to help non-profits, and she is always looking for ways to spotlight local Southside businesses and stories.
