The 2018-2019 Spurs Season Begins Tonight

Spurs

Time to break out your silver and black for the first Spurs game of the year, but unless you're a diehard fan, you may not recognize many of the players, Newsradio 1200 WOAI reports.

The big three of Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili are all gone in what has turned out to be one of the craziest off-seasons in Spurs history.  All-star Kawhi Leonard is also history, thanks to a trade with the Toronto Raptors.

The injury bug has bitten who the team was hoping to be a star in Dejounte Murray.

So, who is left?

Spurs play-by-play announcer Bill Schoening says there's a host of young talent that will impress.  That includes Bryn Forbes, who is the starting point guard, thanks to the departure of Parker and the injury of Murray

"He's a third year guard who has limited duty the last few years.  He's played some with the Austin Spurs," he says.  "He's a very good shooter and he's a guy that's going to be part of the mix in the start of the season."

And while he's injured now, Schoening expects big things from Derrick White.

"He had a great year last year with the Austin Spurs, helping them win the championship in the G-league."

But much of the spotlight for the Spurs will be on DeMar DeRosen, who came from Toronto in the Leonard Trade.

"He's a very good range shooter. He's a very good ball handler," he explains.  "He's played very, very well and become better and better during his ten years in Toronto."

But with all the changes, Schoening will retain their international image.

"The second unit with the Spurs has the Latvian Davis Bertans, the Italian Marco Belinelli and the Australian Patty Mills.  Pau Gasol may be coming off the bench this year.  He's from Spain.

"Pregame starts tonight at 6:45 on Spurs Radio 1200 WOAI.
