Rangers Agree To Terms With Joey Gallo & Isiah Kiner-Falefa

The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has agreed to terms with outfielder Joey Gallo and infielder Isiah Kiner-Falefa on one-year contracts for the 2021 season. No further terms were disclosed.

Gallo and Kiner-Falefa were the only Rangers who were eligible for salary arbitration in 2021.

Both Gallo (right field) and Kiner-Falefa (third base) won 2020 Rawlings Gold Glove Awards for the American League, the 10th time for the Rangers to have multiple winners in a single season and first instance since 2016.

Gallo led all Rangers in walks (29), extra-base hits (18), and home runs (tied-10) last season, leading all Texas position players with a 0.8 FanGraphs WAR figure. According to Baseball Info Solutions (BIS), Gallo’s 12 total runs saved in right field in 2020 were the second-most of any player at any position in the Majors, trailing only Colorado’s Nolan Arenado (15 runs saved at third base).

Kiner-Falefa was selected Rangers 2020 Player of the Year by the Dallas-Fort Worth chapter of the BBWAA. He batted a team-high .280 and led Texas in hits (59), runs (28), and total bases (78). Kiner-Falefa’s baseball-reference.com WAR figure of 2.0 led all Rangers position players and his 11 total defensive runs saved in 2020 ranked third in MLB to only Arenado (15) and Gallo (12).
