Are You Ready To Take Command?

The Big Game is Sunday, But Football Doesn't End There

Most years, this coming Monday would have everyone counting down the days til Combine workouts, pro-days and the NFL Draft - anything to feed the desire for football in our hearts. This year, however, the roster moves and hard hits keep coming thanks to the emergence of the Alliance of American Football (AAF). Football is king in Texas, and we don't even have to wait a full week after the NFL Championship before the San Antonio Commanders take the field at the Alamodome against the San Diego Fleet.

While many may look at other spring leagues, or "NFL alternatives" from the past that failed to fill space the NFL off-season creates, it is the roots of the AAF that gives this promise. At all levels, there are former professional football greats that played, managed or coached in the NFL. Locally, the Commanders benefit from their GM, Daryl "Moose" Johnston, who won Super Bowls with the Dallas Cowboys, who has a roster full of standouts from area colleges, and even former pros looking for another crack to compete. Johnston took some time to join The Chris Duel Show last week to talk about the final preparations with me.
