Today, the Great State of Texas and the world lost a legendary singer, songwriter, and a truly unique soul. Kinky Friedman was not only a brilliant artist but also a kind, funny, and wise man. I had the privilege of knowing him personally, and his generosity and humor always left a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Kinky's career was as colorful and eclectic as he was. From his early days with the Texas Jewboys, where he fearlessly blended country music with sharp, satirical lyrics, to his solo career that saw him penning classics like "They Ain't Makin' Jews Like Jesus Anymore" and "Sold American," Kinky was never afraid to speak his mind and challenge the status quo. His music reflected his larger–than–life personality – bold, irreverent, and always honest.
But Kinky was more than a musician. He was a prolific author, with a series of bestselling mystery novels featuring himself as a fictional detective, a political commentator, and even a candidate for Governor of Texas.
During his run for Texas Governor, we did a weekly segment on my radio show, called “Radio Free Kinky.” It was Radio Gold.
His love for animals led to his co-founding of the Utopia Animal Rescue Ranch near his home.
His wit and wisdom shone through in everything he did, making him a beloved figure far beyond the world of music.

Kinky's talent, heart and wit will forever be missed, but his music and wisdom will live on. Rest in peace, Kinky. Your spirit and legacy will continue to inspire us all.
